A short presentation of our teachers in the project
Hello everybody!
My name is Kåre and
I teach English at our small school. I have been working as a teacher for more
than a century a quarter of a century (so I mostly speak Old English).
I have sixty per
cent of my work at this school and forty per cent (or two days a week) at an
even smaller school. – It is in an open prison on a small island situated in a
fjord some twenty-five minutes from Bergen by train plus the boat that takes us
out to the island.
This combination of
work at two schools has been going on for twenty-one years, and I really enjoy
it, because of the variety it gives me with different types of students, classes
and colleagues etc.
Walking is actually
an important part of my lifestyle. I know it sounds extremely exciting and
action-packed but to me it’s more like a type of meditation. As I walk my daily
ten kilometres my mind also rambles in useful directions, and sometimes ideas
pop up and solutions to problems offer themselves to my surprised self. Another
high risk activity I love is reading, and I have loads of books on my kindle.
In addition I suffer slightly from “footballitis”, though I have never seen
Barcelona live.
Hopefully we are a
lot of people who will enjoy working with each other in this project. I am
looking forward to meeting you!
Hi folks!
My name is Anne Mette and I teach health and social care. I like hiking, horseback riding and fishing. In the winther I like to ski, both alpine skiing and cross country skiing.
I am really looking forward to meeting you all!
Arna vidaregåande skule – Arna vocational school
Our school is situated in the eastern part of Bergen. Most of our
students come from Arna and rural areas further inland, but there are also
students from other parts of Bergen and elsewhere. Students at our school get a
vocational education in trades within mechanics, health and social care
subjects and in carpentry.
Unfortunately, in recent years our school has lost several classes and
the number of students has been reduced dramatically, which has led to a lot of
uncertainty and speculation about the school’s future existence. Politicians have now decided on a major plan
for education in the county in the next decade or so where our school will be
merged with another school in Arna.
In Norway we are quite spoilt by sceneries of mountains and fjords and
especially after we hosted a meeting in our previous Comenius project (VAGAB)
we “discovered”, thanks to e.g. our visitors’ reactions at the view from the
staff room, that our school happens to be rather idyllically situated in nice
natural surroundings.
Talking of VAGAB (Values Across Generations And Borders), we have taken
part in two previous Comenius projects. In that particular project the two
partners from Roquetes and Tilburg were also participants. In addition we were
involved in a project (on first aid instruction for children in kindergarten
and primary school) with two schools from the Czech Republic and Slovakia back
in 2006-2008. We do like to be part of the European experience!
