Arna vidaregåande skule – Arna vocational school

Our school is situated in the eastern part of Bergen. Most of our students come from Arna and rural areas further inland, but there are also students from other parts of Bergen and elsewhere. Students at our school get a vocational education in trades within mechanics, health and social care subjects and in carpentry. 

Unfortunately, in recent years our school has lost several classes and the number of students has been reduced dramatically, which has led to a lot of uncertainty and speculation about the school’s future existence.  Politicians have now decided on a major plan for education in the county in the next decade or so where our school will be merged with another school in Arna.

In Norway we are quite spoilt by sceneries of mountains and fjords and especially after we hosted a meeting in our previous Comenius project (VAGAB) we “discovered”, thanks to e.g. our visitors’ reactions at the view from the staff room, that our school happens to be rather idyllically situated in nice natural surroundings.

Talking of VAGAB (Values Across Generations And Borders), we have taken part in two previous Comenius projects. In that particular project the two partners from Roquetes and Tilburg were also participants. In addition we were involved in a project (on first aid instruction for children in kindergarten and primary school) with two schools from the Czech Republic and Slovakia back in 2006-2008. We do like to be part of the European experience!
